I admit it, I am a news junkie. I love the way it enables me to see the world without having to traipse around the globe myself. I like the comments you get on news sites and social media, getting “normal” people’s reactions to the issues of the day instead of the usual rent a gob commentators and pundits. Everyday it holds the promise of something new and unexpected. But not yesterday. Yesterday, another school in the USA was attacked by a lone gunman. Yesterday, children and staff at a school were murdered. The killer, okay the “alleged” killer, used a firearm to kill, maim and terrify. Oh, and not just any firearm. He has supposedly admitted to using what seems[…]

I view the human race as my personal entertainment system and the current US presidential contest has really delivered on that front. Here are my highlights so far. 1. The way both sides have been trying to make out that their candidate cares about you and your needs. What a pile of mouldering moose dung! They will lie, cheat, obfuscate and bluster until their lungs collapse just so you, the “dear sheeple”, will believe what they say. All politicians are in it for THEMSELVES. They are there to grab as much booty as they can and to Hell with you and your snivelling little lives. I’ve even heard radio interviews with the “dear sheeple” who talk as if a candidate is[…]

I’ve noticed that a lot of Remainers have used the idea that the EU, or its ancestors, has been responsible for a lack of European conflict since World War II. Now call me old fashioned but I was under the impression that Europe, okay Western Europe, has been kept conflict free due to the actions and existence of NATO rather than the European Coal and Steel Community, or the European Economic Community or even the EU itself. After World War II Germany was partitioned and shared out like a birthday cake – although one that had been bombed to bits and left in ruins. Part of that partitioning included the presence of military forces from the UK, France and the USA (God[…]

You have to hand it to the Russians, or should I say Mr Putin? They/he have completely wrong footed the so called Western Powers over the Ukraine Crisis. Watching the news has become an almost surreal experience, like watching old newsreels but in colour and with better commentaries. But while the imagery and words are much improved I cannot help but think that I’m seeing a reworked version of the 1930s. A charismatic nationalist leader using what I’d call a jumped up pretext to justify moving troops into a neighbouring country. Is the word “annexation” about to rear its ugly head? I am left wondering if we’re seeing the start of a long overdue European war? Putin may have correctly[…]
